Touré Calls Tyler Perry’s Movies: “Cinematic Malt Liquor” [VIDEO]

Mr. Tyler Perry can’t seem to catch a break these days. First Mario Van Peebles took a sideways shot at him (and other Black men wearing dresses in films) at this year’s Urbanworld Film festival and now author Touré has gone for his pearl necklace-adorned jugular. Touré debated the merits of Perry’s films with Newsone contributor Dr. Boyce Watkins, who argued that the “Madea” franchise has helped put people to work. Touré countered that drug dealers create jobs too, but that doesn’t make them good jobs. Watch their discussion on CNN below.

The all-star line-up of actors and actresses of Tyler Perry’s newest film “For Colored Girls” are featured on the cover of the December 2010 (Special Edition) issue of ESSENCE Magazine.
The issue features 2 covers, with one showing the women (Thandie Newton, Kimberly Elise, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose, Kerry Washington, Loretta Devine, Janet Jackson, Tessa Thompson & Whoopi Goldberg) and the other showing the men (Richard Lawson, Hill Harper, Omari Hardwick, Khalil Kain & Michael Ealy).

UPDATE: Tyler Perry Cries On Oprah

Tyler Perry appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show today and cried after sharing the details of his horrific childhood and abusive father.
In addition to being beaten by his father (once, so badly that he blacked out for three days), Tyler Perry was also sexually abused by four different adults when he was a child.
Perry details his traumatic childhood, saying, “[It was] a living hell,” adding, “I feel like I died as a child.”

Tyler Perry Makes History With “For Colored Girls” Casting

Tyler Perry took to his official website to write a message to his fans regarding his film adaptation of “For Colored Girls.”
He’s aware that there are non-believers – people that think he shouldn’t have touched the original play – but despite them, he’s got news that’s worth celebrating, news that matters whether the movie turns out good or not. Read his letter below:
