For just the third time since Chuck Noll was hired in 1969, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be searching for a new head coach. Mike Tomlin’s 19-season run in Pittsburgh has come to an end.
Tomlin, who became the NFL’s longest-tenured head coach after the New England Patriots parted ways with Bill Belichick, informed the organization he would be stepping down following Monday night’s blowout wild-card loss to the Houston Texans. The 53-year-old coach is ready for a new chapter after nearly two decades on the Steelers’ sideline.
The Steelers confirmed the decision Tuesday. Team president Art Rooney II said Tomlin “decided to step down as our head coach.”
