The memory of DeShaun “Proof” Holton of D12 will be honored in Detroit with a scholarship for high school seniors who come from low-income, single-parent households. The scholarship is being offered by the Proof Foundation, which was launched by Proof’s mother, Sharallene “Pepper” Holton-White, in 2007.
Qualifying Detroit area students must have a 3.0 minimum GPA, and be heading towards a two or four-year college or university. Each applicant must write an essay stating how they would stop violence in Detroit if they were to become mayor of the city.
The scholarship winner will be announced on April 11th after a candlelight vigil honoring Proof’s memory. Proof was shot during a fight in Detroit on April 11, 2006.
