Atlanta-based rapper Waka Flocka (aka Waka Flocka Flame; real name Juaquin Malphurs) started the new year by owning up to last year's mistakes -- the 24-year-old turned himself over to police on Monday, in response to a warrant issued for his arrest on Dec. 16, 2010. At that time, police arrested two associates at Flocka's home for possession of marijuana and they searched the premises but Flocka himself was not present. The rapper's friend and mentor, Gucci Mane, was placed in handcuffs during the raid before being released shortly thereafter.
Flocka's mom told TMZ.com that her son surrendered to authorities after the two of them had a heart-to-heart. "He wanted to do the right thing," she said, adding that he "didn't want to run."
Flocka was booked on multiple charges including drug possession (a small amount of cannabis, as well as the prescription painkiller hydrocodone) and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon during the commission of a felony. He also stands to be charged on counts of violating Georgia's anti-gang laws and driving on a suspended license.
