Kanye, B.o.B., Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and More Nominated for NAACP Awards
Several prominent members of the Hip Hop community are up for prizes from the venerable institution
The list of this year’s NAACP Image Awards nominees has just been released. Many of those nominated will be very familiar to DX readers and rap fans. Hip Hop is very heavily represented in several major categories with superstars and newcomers alike being singled out for honors by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, one of the most respected organizations in the country.
B.o.B., Nicki Minaj, and youngster Willow Smith are all up for Newcomer of the Year. Cee-Lo, Kanye West, and Jay-z will vie for the Outstanding Male Artist honor. Outstanding Duo or Group nominations were scored by The Roots and John Legend, Eminem and Rihanna, and Diddy Dirty-Money. Kanye’s opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and The Roots collaboration album with Legend, Wake Up!, are two of the records battling it out for Outstanding Album.
